Creating Equitable Bay Area Schools The Bay Area CSLA Principals' Study Group brought together by invitation a core group of site leaders to deeply explore the implications of racism, exclusion and privilege on student learning. The first two sessions, on Feb. 3 and 4, were well attended and there is a great deal of excitement about the upcoming third session, March 31.
consciousness-raising In the first two Oakland sessions, principal/support provider teams explored racism, how it manifests in our culture and our schools, and its contribution to educational failure. Participants examined policies and practices that negatively impact on our ability to have all students achieve at high levels.
developing strategies On day three, site leaders will design capacity-building and support strategies to help their teachers identify institutional patterns that negatively impact on learning for their students. At follow-up meetings, there are discussions and opportunities to evaluate strategies, develop additional tools and support each other's endeavors.
